I think the point is no government agency issued him a ticket.

Was this in a different state?

Do NOT listen to all the freedom haters telling you to pay the debt. Your liberty is worth more than this.

I don't care if the ticket was 5 fricking dollars. I would fight it on principle.

Post by Will Cover in a previous traffic camera thread.
quote:
1. Real tickets will instruct you to contact the court to resolve matter in question while fake tickets (ATS and RedFlex) may tell you not to contact the court. Fake tickets are sent via regular US Postal Mail service, but appear to be "official," which they are not. Criminal citations are sent by registered or certified mail.
2. In Louisiana, RLC and speed camera citations are NOT a criminal offense. They are treated as CIVIL matter, partly because the OWNER of the vehicle is issued the citation (doesn't matter who is driving) and if contested, you won't be awarded the opportunity to go before a judge. Instead, you will have a hearing with an Administrative Adjudication officer (city appointed).
3. CIVIL offenses are NOT reported to the Louisiana DMV or your insurance company.
4. In Baton Rouge, city officials will NOT turn over your Social Security Number to a private company (ATS and RedFlex).
5. If unpaid fine goes on your credit report, simply dispute online with Equifax, Experian and TransUnion. Ask them to investigate and validate the debt owed. ATS and RedFlex must provide proof that you entered into an agreement for goods or services or signed promissory note.
6. If threatened with a collection notice or a harassing phone call, do the math. ATS and RedFlex send out thousands upon thousands citations each and every day. This is profitable for them to do, because many people are scared into thinking they have to pay (the media plays a large part in this) and because it's the "right thing to do." But think about the numbers ...

Cease and Desist letter.
Tell them to stop contacting you or file a judgement. They will stop.
It will not go on your credit report. If, by chance it does, go online and ask whichever of the three that it is on, for proof of debt. They will ask for it. It will not be provided. The credit company will remove it.
Very simple, really.

If a $100 unpaid camera ticket knocks him down to a 580 it's already too late.

Hold on... There is no way he was issued a ticket from someone other than a government agency. Now, if a government agency chooses to hire a contractor to enforce an ordinance, they have that right. A similar situation might be where a building inspector that is a contract employee issues a code violation. At least in Texas, the penalty for the traffic cameras are usually based on it being a civil violations as opposed to criminal ones, and as such, require a lot less proof to enforce.
If you REALLY want to fight it, I can think of two options off the top of my head. First, you could go the girlfriend (ex?) route and try to get out of it since you weren't driving, but that seems to be a tall order. Second, you could possibly request verification that the equipment that cited you (or in this case your vehicle) has been properly calibrated according to the industry standard specifications.

Well I glad someone has that much time on their hands.

Which is a 6-8 week process.....or you can pay it and not find out about this half way through buying a home

So much misinformation in this thread. This CAN'T legally be put on your credit report. Most of you have to be trolling the OP.
