CLASSIC!! Guy comes on here with a legit concern asking for help to make his neighborhood safer and you call out the kids and parenting. Guess some people just love conflict, no matter what type it may be huh? Just give you a topic and side to debate and I'll bet you can do it all, hero...

Keyshawn, you need to leave the Beebes alone.

Sounds like it.
Maybe you should read a page or so back?

Used to do something similar to this. Was funny to watch. But to the OP, you could always tape their arse. Grab a 3-5 ft. piece of duct tape and place it sticky side up on the road where tires normally pass. Fold the ends over though and apply only the ends on the ground so it wont blow off in the wind but so that a passing vehicles tire will stick to it and take it with them. When the tire sucks it up, it will start flapping around in the wheel hub and it sounds a whole lot like a flat tire does. When they get out to check their tire, tell them to slow down and carry on haha Had fun with this trick in my youth.
So what happens when a normal, non-speeding car passes?

I guess they'd just walk inside and pretend like nothing happened

I live in a cul-de-sac so speeders is not something I normally have to deal with thankfully. We've been in our neighborhood 8 years this month and I think I've only had to say something to one guy.

They better keep it slow if they don't wanna get killed by a ball peen hammer

I love when the neighborhood badasses start these threads, I admit there are cars that flat out speed no matter what or where they are and they are dumbass dipshits but short of gated entrances, spike strips, speed bumps every 10 feet and a dedicated officer position patrolling 24/7 what can you do? Oh right, don't encourage your kids to play in the streets...because guess what, people speed.

I understand that speeding is dangerous for all that live in the neighborhood, but I also agree that we let children use the street as a playground a little too much. I obey the speed limit in my neighborhood. I follow all traffic laws, yet I still have to watch out for kids flying out of driveways on their scooters and bikes. The road is not an extension of your yard. It was put there for people to drive their vehicles. If someone is breaking the law on the road, by all means go after them for the safety of your children, but at the same time, you need to realize that when your children play in the street, they are probably breaking a few laws as well. I doubt any kids are following the traffic laws when cruising the neighborhood.

I don't think anyone is encouraging their kids to play in the street in this thread. Perhaps you should read BigSquirrel's post on the previous page. I'm not going to let my 2 yr old play outside without me, but in the extremely unlikely chance he makes it out there I'd prefer if the person driving by on my street was driving at 25 MPH rather than 50 MPH. It only makes sense.
Why would schools have slower speed limits? Because kids are around and they sometimes make bad choices. Yeah, there are crossing guards, parents, and teachers all around, but kids do shite without thinking about all the consequences. As someone with a license issued by the state, you have a responsibility to follow the traffic laws of the state and not speed. I don't always not speed. Hell, on I-49 I'll set my cruise at 83 and roll, but there's a difference between that and my neighborhood.

Having said all of this, what is your plan for eliminating 100% of speeders in subdivisions?
I get that toddlers will get out, that is a very tragic accident when that happens...but I promise you there are a lot of people in this thread who puff their chests out and tell their kids it's ok to play in the streets because they'll be sitting out there with a pallet of bricks chunking them at the speeders.

OK, we're not talking about kids playing on HWY 1 or HWY 90 here. We're talking about kids playing in the streets of quiet family oreinted neigborhoods. I'll be the first to admit that if I'm on the interstate I AM speeding. But side streets and neigborhoods I drive below the limits and keep a keen eye for kids, dogs, deer, etc.
My son seen the truck coming, pulled to over to the curb and stopped. He has been trained well. The idiot driver crossed over the center line while making the Flowmasters sing Song of the South. This is the type of drivers I am biatching about, if you drive decent and obey the speed limit this doesn't apply to you, carry on.
ETA: And as far as kids playing in the streets of a neighborhood; really guys. It's the freaking norm for small, quiet neighborhoods that are not on the beating path....
