I got a ticket earlier today for tinted windows. I was reading that you can get prescriptions in other states for tint.

I hate when I can't mean mug a slow driver as I finally pass them due to tinted windows.

It will have to come from your eye doctor stating that you have a sensitivity to light. Then you have to file it with LSP.
Pay your ticket and leave the prescriptions to people that actually need overly tinted windows.

Why would you want to tint a Passat?

If window tint is good enough for police officers private vehicles and politicians, it should be good enough for everyone else.
frick the police. I bet his cruiser was tinted.
Side note, they use to give security exemptions but stopped because whoever the dude is at LSP is an asshat.

And when you get in a wreck at night and they realize the script is a lie and sue you stating you couldn't see because your windows were too dark you will be fricked!

Not if you are one of the following

OP asked about a prescription which is =/= security exemption.

Thank you for pointing that out for everyone. Now we know that the other options to legally tint your vehicle do not apply because the OP is only concerned with a medical exception.
I wish I had known he/she was not interested in other options.

It's WAY harder now to get one than it used to be. I always just rolled the dice with the dark windows.

I had a conference call with that Captain and the attorney for LSP/DPS when they refused my application and I went through the legislated appeals process. The Captain flat said that he considers it his mission to deny every permit without consideration and that if he had his way the LSP wouldn't even have to accept the applications. I asked "are you telling me that you are refusing to do your job as mandated in state law?" The attorney shut things down with the quickness and ended the call. They denied my appeal. Shocking that the guy who denies the application in the first place is also the deciding official for the appeal... Hmmm... Anyway, be prepared for a lot of BS to get a medical approved.

I know someone this happened to but continue to laugh thinking it's impossible. Some very good lawyers live for slam dunks like that.

I'm sorry, my first comment that insinuated that he/she shouldn't apply for a false prescription to get out of a ticket should have also included that he/she shouldn't waste time falsifying a security exemption.

I've had my windows tinted in every single vehicle I've ever owned and never once been stopped for it. I 've been told to get it checked at a couple inspection sticker checkpoints which is retarded and if I do realize a cop is close I just roll them down.

I believe this is the nice gentlemen in question.

What I'm laughing at is you thinking someone can't see beaming headlights through tinted windows at night. If they got in a wreck it wasn't because of their tint unless it's blacked out limo tint which is stupid as shite to get in the first place.
