What a disingenuous remark. You are referring to Ukraine as having a corrupt government while not acknowledging that Russia is an autocracy with few personal freedoms. The truth is that Russia wants a corrupt government that Russia controls, not a NATO country.
This is a war about oil and gas. Eastern Ukraine and the Black Sea contains some of the best reserves in Eurasia outside of Siberia; Russia simply couldn't allow a free Ukraine to undercut them in the European market.
