Osteen is a piece of shite who I probably wouldn't make much of an effort to hit the brakes for if he was crossing the road in front of me. But, I have some respect for him being able to so efficiently fleece the sheep. As my Pops used to say, "The sheep must be fleeced." Joel fleeces them better than anyone, and he's managed to stay out of jail this long.
That said, if he were starving to death and I had a dollar to spare, I wouldn't buy a hotdog to keep him alive. Nothing personal, just bidness.

I don’t understand how he “fleeces” people more than any other successful pastor. I actually see him soliciting offerings far less than any other church leader I’ve ever seen. He sells books and has tv revenue.
I went to a neighbors baptist church a month ago at their request and they were FAR more solicitous than Joel Osteen. They mentioned fundraising for their new church a half dozen times, had a donation thermometer up during the service, had it as a poster near the coffee, and had 2.5 different offering call outs.

The problem with Joel and the rest of the crowd is they’re missing out on telling people the truth, and that is preaching the Bible, then comes belief, then OUR repentance and then sanctification through a walk with God.
If you’re always feeling good in church, and there’s no discomfort, then you’re missing out. Scripture makes us feel uncomfortable at times, and the Holy Spirit convicts, but if everything revolves around some feel good nonsense then we are missing out on Christ’s miracles in our lives, the greatest of all miracles being forgiveness and restoration to Him.
I never hear repent messages, and yet that’s all Christ said to people, was repent for the Kingdom of God is at hand. John the Baptist, same message. Paul, same message, Peter, same message. Where is the repentance? That’s the biggest issue I have with the Joel Olsteens of this world.

Agree that’s part of it. It’s the same reason white guys hate on handsome successful white athletes like Tom Brady and JJ Redick. I think it’s engrained in our culture in order to weaken it.

You're working under the misunderstanding that I'm a fan or supporter of any "successful preacher". If you're literally selling salvation and making a fortune off of it, I pretty much think you're a shite human being. From Joel to the Pope to anyone who says they'll come save souls for a hefty speaking fee, I believe they're nothing more than religious grifters. Stop writing the checks and see how many souls they're willing to save.
That said, part of me respects the hell out of the grift.

Jesus repeatedly encourages people to deny themselves (including riches) and follow him. There are multiple references to this in the New Testament.
