Just curious how you would annoy a micromanager. In reality, this person should be fired but the nature of the situation is they won’t be fired. So how would you annoy them?

Time to revive the Annoy-a-Tron thread.

Keep telling him dad jokes.
Roses are gray
Violets are gray
Tulips are gray
I'm a dog
ETA: You have to be persistent. Have jokes on notecards, read jokes while staring at notecards and then look up suddenly and study his face for his reaction. Be insecure about it, ask him his opinion of every joke. Tell him at least 2 jokes an hour.

Keep bugging him for information constantly to the point he goes the other way when he sees you.

Do your job right the first time.
But seriously, there is no avoiding them other than to avoid that manager. It’s their personality. In my experience, most are like that because it gives them a sense of control, others because they suck at delegating and are afraid to let go.

How about just meet or exceed his expectations…every time. I’m sure it will be a huge relief to your micro manager and allow him to look away, so to speak. If he trusts your work, you’ve won.

You obviously have never worked for one.

Throw his phone in the ceiling and call it incessantly

Exactly. I consider it my job to run my department so my manager doesn't have to worry about it. He's just unable to trust anyone.

Find out what their hottest button is and keep your thumb on it.
I had one that wanted everything perfectly straight. So something would always be off every time they weren’t there. VERY slightly off. Like get a ruler and realize it’s about 1/8” off line so it’s bugging them cause they think it’s not right but aren’t sure

No, I am a recovering micromanager of 25+ years.

Yeah you have no idea what a micromanager is.
This person actually does no real work and can only criticize others work.

Liquid arse. Just a few sprays each day in his office.

To get them off your back, turn it around on them:
- first of all tell them you are going to need more of their time daily to help you
- document every interaction...make it clear you are taking notes when they are talking with you
- When speaking w them, ask a ton of questions, even if you already know the answer
- Send a recap of every interaction to them and ask them for feedback
- demand daily meetings with them to review all of your tasks
- if they are in meetings w you, randomly call them out ask them questions on the minutiae in front of others
- The goal is to make their interactions w you so TEDIOUS they won't want to be around you
