Been told by someone who worked for him he was the most powerful mafia figure in the country. How was that possible from NOLA?

Only know what I have read. Powerful, but only in the south/nola. Held almost absolute control over the areas.
If he had went against the NE he probably would have been smacked down and put in his place. The NE guys had lots of respect for him and let him run his business.
Maybe he was the Tulane compared to the Ivy League.

Who told you that? What was his name?

NOLA was one of the most powerful and influential cities in America through the 30s

read Mafia Kingfish years ago. Pretty convincing to me that he was involved.

My mom used to hang out with Vincent on Chimes street. I don't think they were doing much at that point.
Until the video poker deal, which was bullshite. They and the Tusa's were railroaded by the usual elected criminals in Louisiana.

He put out hits in the late 70’s in Lafayette.

That’s actually true if you do some reading. The 5 families had to check in with him before they sent someone down here or made a big move.
Seriously, read up on it. It’s fascinating. I did it probably 10 yrs ago and was blown away by it. His right hand man lived down the street from me when i was a kid in Slidell, and it made me curious.

Without a doubt. Included in the Apalachin meeting so you know they respected what he did.

I read that in the book he was there. Seems amazing. Still not sure how he could be so powerful from a city like NOLA.

Port City and union control would be my guess. Alcohol and gambling as a kicker.
Not like the Mafia is known for shorting the stock market or being high finance savants.
