This can't be understated. I'm not sure which is better: early or late. I am happy with our decision to have them early. It's really nice to have a ton of vacation days, money in the bank, and the freedom just to do whatever you want when you want.

22 with first, and 24 with second. And yes, I'm excited that I'll only be 42 when my youngest turns 18. I lost my parents when I was 18 and 20 - I didn't want to wait too late and put my kids in that same boat.

Based on my personal experience, having a kid later (31) has been great. Me and my wife had 7 years of going on trips alone, doing spontaneous weekend trips, and getting to know each other. Not saying you can't do that after your kids are out the door, but a lot of the stuff we did when we were in our 20's wouldn't be fun now in our 30's. We didn't have a lot of money then, but we didn't really need it with just the two of us. Now we are both stable in our careers, have money, and can afford to do fun, memorable things with our son.
