And where are these mythical towns of which you speak?
the first time I went to Austin in 2004, I counted the black people I saw

Over 3 days I counted 14

I presume it's changed since then

Eh. One of the biggest "post a black square in 2020" people I know is from Laguna Beach, CA where the black population is 0.6%.

It's funny when these very strongly opinionated people come visit cities in the south.

Not seeing black people makes you nervous? Is this a Bill Burr bit?

Never.

I've lived my life in Mississippi (18.5% to 20.6%) and South Carolina (~33.2%).

I will say, at the tender age of 14 when I moved from coastal MS to SC, I was shocked at what I saw when I went over the state line to Augusta Mall.(56%)

ETA... spent a month in Bridgewater, NS... don't think I saw many, but was too distracted by the size of mosquitos and cost of cigarettes to notice.

I grew up in a town of over 3,500 people, zero black people. The conference my high school played in had two schools with a small percentage of black students. 1980’s.

I was surprised a while back just how concentrated the black population is. I looked it up a while back when I noticed Mena Arkansas only has 14 of them!

On a side note, the one black guy I encountered in Mena was wearing a MAGA hat. lol

I grew up in a town (and county) with no black people.

The minority were American Indians.

Northwest Arkansas has always been an interesting outlier. Judging by the map black folks really like living near a big river but really don't like living in the mountains and foothills.

I grew up in a community(not incorporated) of about 2200. (1970's) No blacks. They lived on other side of interstate in their 99.9% black community.
