I took a $20k pay cut for a career change in order to get me into a position where I could make more money doing what would make me happier in the long run.

I work to live, not the other way around. Give me a job that pays well and gives me some flexibility and I'm good to go. I don't really know of any career that I would enjoy enough to sacrifice my personal life.

Same. I willingly took a job that was about 20% less than some of my friends out the gate in college and I haven't regretted it for a second, and there's a lot of factors that go into that. Comparatively, I have an overall better benefit package and my hours worked are predictable and generally consistent.
And actually, a lot of the salaried ones that still make more than me, if you compute their average pay per hour they work it's even less than mine despite the fact that they may pull in thousands more than me (often they're working 60 hour work weeks vs. my 40-45 hour work weeks).

I am doing it now. A lot.
I have done enough to get paid good money for it, so my living conditions shall improve.

Head coaching high school football would be my dream job, but it would be a significant pay decrease.

My father and I sold our business a while back. I could have stayed and worked and payed my dad a salary to say at home but the buyout was enough that if I didn't go around blowing money then myself, my sisters (no pics) and my parents could live comfortably.
I have a little kitchen table type business that I run out of my old office. I work on referral/appointment only. It's mostly to just for fun at this point but it does generate a little bit of income.
Long story short, I gave up the opportunity to make a fricking shite pile of cash in exchange for what basically amounts to $60-80k/year depending. I took about a 75% cut, had to sell my house and camp, but it was 100% worth it

I know a middle school principal who voluntarily took a demotion to coach high school football. Now that I think about it, I know a long-time high school principal who recently did the same.

Dream jobs are just as much work as non dream jobs. Sometimes more
Dream jobs change as you get them
Dream jobs change as you get them
