I was talking to my doctor and she brought up the cost of college. When she finished she had $300k in debt. The doctor that started the practice that she is at now is nearing retirement (by the looks, he is well past the retirement age) and she said his entire schooling was under $10k and he had Zero debt. That wasn't just tuition, that was all tuition, fees and books. I didn't know how my doctor racked up $300k in med school debt going through LSU so I looked it up and it is $30k+ a year and she probably did the 4 year degree, 4 years med school, 3 years residency to become a primary care so it is entirely possible. The current degree I am pursuing is suppose to cost $35k start to finish according to the schools published estimation, but it someone seems to run roughly twice what they claim it costs when you add in fees and random lab costs. Most books are provided in an online format, I think I had to "buy" one book, thanks library genesis! Worst yet, they are talking about adding on a COVID fee for next semester, they didn't tell students that, but I am closer in age to faculty than students so some of them talk to me like peers and they told me that wanted to add on to cover "COVID expenses" since CARES ran out.

I honestly don’t remember what tuition was when I started LSU in 1997.

I do recall my grandfather telling me when he started Southeastern in 1937 it was $20/semester. Most students paid in cash on the first day of class.

Two goats and a pig, then some gardening on campus during the semester.
