How much to drop an LS3 into an old hoe?

Looking to pick up a high mileage 2005-2014 Tahoe. I'm seeing many good body ones for $5-12K
New crate LS3, built tranny, fuel pump, harness, the whole shebang with labor too. I got family that can do it, but I'll leave a big tip along with ample food and beer.

There are some differences in the harnesses, and other little things. Physically the engine will bolt in just fine. May need to convert all the accessories over to the ls3. Depending on the trans you may have to change out the drive shaft, and cross member.

If you pick up a 2nd job doing porn or dancing or turning tricks you could pick up a low mileage model with good leather.
Have you considered an ‘84 Caprice?

I'm half tempted to try and buy this thing;

'87 Custom Cruiser that they put full QA1 suspension with coil overs under.
Stuff a 5.3 LS/6L80 in it, some Brembos off a CTS and have a sweet cruiser.

You would need to replace the transmission too. Those aren't built to handle to torque that an LS will make.

Seems it would be easier to just throw a cam, and maybe some heads, at the 5.3 that is already in the truck. Or swap in a 6.0 from the same generation.
A crate LS3 isn't anything special.

^This.
You’d have a standard grocery getter throwing that engine in the thing. It ‘could’ be made more fun with it but you’d have to throw extra attention at the gears and transmission to get it there.

Lot of money to not be as fast as the newer 6.2L’s stock

Rebuilt 4.8/5.3 with a hot cam is under $2500 if you do it yourself and you can make the same horsepower as a “stock” 6.2 LS.
If you go to a newer 6.2 LT that stuff is more advanced than LS on cam timing/oil squirters/cylinder drop/direct injection.
I am fine buying 4.8 that never had those features for $250/ea at junk yards and using the extra money for power adders.
People want a 6.2 for the name but that low end torque is what crushes stock transmissions. Softer low end of a 4.8 and a better converter can make a trans last longer with the exact same hp numbers on a dyno.
