The summer of 1982 I paid my brother $100/month to sleep on his couch in Littleton, CO and eat dinner every night. I was working construction out there and graduated college the next Spring. Couldn't find a decent job in Hooterville that summer. Could have stayed at my parents for nothing, and not worked. Saved $1K that I applied to the student loan debt.

If I were to do something like this I would put it in an account to give to them when they were ready to buy a home.

Exactly, Who would pay to live with their parents?

Everytime I see that friend, i buy his everything. Although he’s the breadwinner in his house, he doesn’t make alot of money.
He’s a genius too. He is a sports encyclopedia. Who was the right guard for Tampa in 2003? He knows. Who was the quarterback for Georgia Tech in 1978? He knows.
Always be on his team on trivia nights.
He’s also a hell of a guitar player.
But he works a lowly job and helps support his family and alot of people would think of him as a loser. But that’s the world we live in.

I'm currently living with my parents while I finish up my masters. They don't "charge" me anything. I take 18hrs a semester and work full time every summer to earn my spending money. My parents are pretty young, so it doesn't bother them too much that I'm doing this. My sister is already out the house and off the payroll. I will be out of the house and financially dependent by the time my parents are 52.

The story of your friend makes me sad. I don't know him but I'm proud of him for being what sounds like a great guy.

You're not an adult until you're 24 now

Adulthood does not begin until 24, scientists have concluded because young people are continuing their education for longer and delaying marriage and parenthood.
The traditional definition for adolescence is currently between and the ages of 10 and 19, which marked the beginnings of puberty and the perceived end of biological growth.
But, writing in the Lancet Child & Adolescent Health, scientists from the Royal Children’s Hospital in Melbourne argue the timings needs to be changed.he traditional definition for adolescence is currently between and the ages of 10 and 19, which marked the beginnings of puberty and the perceived end of biological growth.
