My kids favorite bday party was at a BREC park. I bought a giant inflatable beach ball for like $20, bro in law made cotton candy with a rental machine, and we painted their faces. They all loved it

Just saw the check my wife cut to the party planner and it was well into the four figures.
I am in the wrong business.
Time to do birthday parties.
Did they hire the clown from Uncle Buck:

He's probably the type a person to spend $5k on a 4yo birthday then. This may be legit. Lol

I don’t remember any of my birthdays when I was a kid. I think just a regular family dinner and a cake would suffice for a 4 year old. So in this day in and age, for a 4 year old and 2 parents, dinner, and dessert…probably $1000 at the grocery store

I’m doing a birthday party next year at a lsu game. She will be 6 and her first game. Other than that… we do it after thanksgiving dinner. Her mom does some extravagant party. Screw that.

Yeah we made some food and my wife made a cake. The kids played at the park. 4 figures is the sign of a fricking psychopath.

People doing that aren't trying to subtle brag about it to strangers on a sports board

When my kids were growing up (10-ish years ago) Mr. Gatti’s would charge $50 for a party. It included pizza and drinks for the kids and they each got 3 tokens to play the games with. I would bring the cake and shell out for them to each have a handful more tokens. The kids all had a great time. Idk if Gattis still does parties but think about that for next year. It was just as fun for the kids as the parties where the parents had 3 course meals catered, petting zoos, bouncy water slides, etc.

If you are spending four figures on a 4-year old’s birthday party, it is actually a party for mom and not for your child…think about that….

You can do fun, themed, parties at the house fairly inexpensively if you just put a little thought into it. My wife was amazing at this. One year for my daughter she did a Hawaiian Luau. Made coconut bras with grass skirts and leis for all the girls to wear. We had tiki torches everywhere. Played games like limbo etc.
My son was a big fan of Fear Factor when it was on tv. We did a Fear Factor birthday for him one year. Had “stunts” they had to perform and even made some gross stuff for them to eat. Had prizes for kids that won challenges.
Rented big blowup slip n slide one year and it was fairly inexpensive compared to other things people have done.
Not hard to come up with fun things to do at the house fairy cheap. Hell a couple years when they were still pretty young, we just did it at the park.

I have 4 kids close in age. We had the same party for each of them for about 5 yrs…inflatable bounce house, tray of finger sandwiches, ice cream, cake and drinks. They loved it and had a blast.

People will rip on you, but $1,000 is not hard to spend. A party planner is absurd but $1,000 is not.
Cake, drinks and food at your house for the kids and their parents will cost $200.
Rent a bounce castle or hire any kind of entertainment and it will be another $250-$350.
If you are inviting a whole class of kids, their parents, your family and a few none class guests, you can easily get 30-50 people and will spend $500-$1000 to rent out any kind of venue.
