How much is a clean title worth on a vehicle?

I've started a couple of threads about 4Runners recently, but have expanded my search and am still deciding. I'm trying to make sense of some of the pricing. Exactly how much does having an accident on record diminish a vehicle's value? It doesn't scare me to drive it, but if I want to sell it in a year or 2 how much would that hurt me value-wise? As always, tia.

I don't think accident free = clean title.

Try financing a salvage title and find out

I wouldn't buy a vehicle with an accident on record unless I planned on driving it until it died.
I am by no means an expert in the auto field though.

It depends, are you going to spring for the hand wash and wax or just simply machine wash?

Depends on what kind of accident. If it was major with bent frame etc then probably has some effect. IF it was a fender bender it probably has no effect (on the vehicle you're mentioning).

Accident that is repaired properly isn't that horrible.
Assuming it is just fender bender.
At most, a couple thousand when you go to negotiate.

Clean title doesn't mean what you think it means.

This too.

I would think would depend on the year, make and model of vehicle

Clearly not judging from the responses. Somebody should have posted that Inigo Montoya meme.
But you know what I mean. For exampe, there is car that every website confirm she would be a good deal at $10,000. They're selling it for like $6,900. The only thing I can think of is the reported accident. I had 2 thoughts: 1) buy it and turn around and sell it an make over a grand profit or 2) Just drive it till it dies(like the other poster suggested).

People will use things like Carfax against you when negotiating regardless of the kind of accident. If you have an insurance claim on the vehicle it will pop on Carfax. Wife bent the rim of our car hitting a curb. Used insurance and replaced the rim. Now we have an accident report and when we attempted a trade, they said it impacted the price. Basically we have a “story” car now. Something to think about if you ever want to use your insurance to repair a minor incident.

Just like almost everyone in this thread said, the would probably not purchase a car if it had a wreck. When selling the car you will have to bring up the carfax, and the "accident" and no matter what "story" you tell them, they are going to use that as a negotiating tool.

You are seriously overestimating the buyer's intelligence here.

Clean title and Clean Carfax are two different things.
Clean title means no liens and never been totaled out.

Clean title just means the seller legally owns the car with no liens. Has nothing to do with whether it's been in an accident.
