Sounds like you might have it better than most. I'm assuming most of those sales are Trucks/SUVs?

If you don't mind giving an estimate, how much of the business at a Ford dealership is F-150s and SUVs? I'm just curious.

I'm a used car salesman. I make between 75 and 95. This year maybe a little more. I'm working hard though, about 60 hours a week and I don't take lunch breaks.

I worked at a Ford Dealership and averaged 1 F250 a week, 2 F150's, and then whatever. I made more money than I do now (about 50-60k) but worked more and was more stressed.

I'm sure that totally has to do with location, location, location. At your local dealers in NOLA and BR area I would guess 60-75% trucks and SUVs'? They really don't carry many cars besides mustangs and a few focus and fusions.

Where are people getting 60-70 hour work weeks lol? Those are as inflated as the salaries I feel like. Are most salesman really working 6:30 to 6:30 6 days a week? Because that's what it takes to work 70 hours.

some people don't mind that schedule. People I know did have some freedom but other people I know would rather have a more structured schedule. You admit the schedule is one of the cons about the job right?

Sounds about right.

Having to work a full day every Saturday can be more of a deal breaker than a lot of people realize.

Are dealerships closed on most Holidays? So that's 51 hours a week. It wouldn't be that bad if you took Mondays off as you'd still get your 2 day weekend.

Schedule wasn't bad considering the downtime and if you were someone who had connections or given the internet sales you could work less. Our top salesman was given each internet sale unless working another deal so it was easy for him considering most deals were already completed.
Dude worked a lot less than me, basically a 9-6 schedule 4 days a week (sometimes later if working on a deal) and 10-2 on Saturday.

We worked either 8-5 or 1-10. We had way too many salesman on the lot. Usually worked the new lot one week, used lot the next.

How much could someone make from doing this on the side if the goal was to move one to two cars a month? Doing strictly auction buys and reselling?

My family used to be in the car business. It varies greatly, and depends on how much effort they're willing to put in. Some dudes barely scraped by and made like $30k. I knew one dude who made over $100k too though. This guy was a beast though - worked 12 hour days everyday and worked 6 days a week. Guy was a hustler.

understand why they are in that situation. But the attitude that I am going to loan them this car knowing full well they won't ever repay the full amount and then put a chip in it that I can remotely shut it off when they inevitably miss their payment is unethical. They will take that same car back and put another 15K loan out on it to the next desperate person who comes through their doors. This way the dealer can keep having payments coming in without having to renew their inventory. It's predatory behavior.

If I go to the BWM dealer and finance a high end model make 6 payments on it then stop paying they are going to come get the car, re-sell it and finance it again. Is that action also unethical, because the only thing that has changed is the type of car and the dollar amounts? No one held a gun to the head of the people dealing with the low end high interest car places.
