What if getting the flu shot is what made COVID-19 so infectious?

That is exactly how vaccines work. They take a deactivated form of a virus or a piece of the virus and introduce it to your immune system. Your immune system recognizes it as foreign and starts an immune response. At the end of that immune response, your immune response has made antibodies against that virus and it has memory cells ready to recognize that virus and produce the antibodies again if it ever needs to. This is the exact same thing that happens when you are exposed to the real thing. Except that you avoid the part where the virus makes you sick while the immune system figures out how to fight it.

Considering that my reasons for not getting the flu shot anymore are medical, I guess it would depend on how it’s formulated. For me, this would ideally be a one-and-done type of infection and we’d reach herd immunity levels quickly enough that it won’t be an issue. I’d also like to get an antibody test on the off chance that I’ve already cleared it and have immunity, even if that’s a very long shot.

Of course, if re-infection with the same strain is possible, I’ll have a tougher decision to make.

It amazes me that we have a significant number of people who are moderate and/or independent in this country and can easily swing the vote either way, and yet the side that always claims intellectual superiority and tolerance can’t seem to figure out that we find childish, intentionally divisive politicizing just as unbecoming of you and alienating to us as we do when it comes from the far right.
