Not friends, but an ex gf of mine still calls/texts me every year for my birthday.

This is 8 years in a row now. Kinda strange, to say the least.

I'm friends with my 2 exes. It's because of the kids but we often find ourselves at parties, tailgates, birtday dinners around each other. We share Facebook posts, send videos to each other of the kids, etc. They also both love my gf of 7 yrs(longer than either marriage) and appreciate what she does for their bebes. I'm very blessed for the pleasant dynamic and I am grateful.

I am living this life for the same reasons. Ex and I still friends and both want what’s best for our kids. Being ugly or confrontational doesn’t help anyone and really just costs the 2 Adults a shite ton on unnecessary lawyer fees. This of course is only an option if the 2 adults act like 2 adults

I feel like there need to be a few qualifiers around this question like:

-Are you married?
-was the ex a spouse or just dating?
-Did you and the ex have kids?
-What is the nature of the friendship (ie: we’re you always friends or did y’all just become friends after finding each other on Facebook last night after a fight with your current SO)?

I think the answers to these will help determine the appropriateness of the friendship with the ex.

ETA: I find the situation in the OP suspect. Might be no big deal, but I would be wary if I was the new boyfriend.

- they had no kids
- he seems to not want to let go of her

Yeah...definitely suspect. Just a hunch, but I’m guessing that maybe she likes his attention (or something else) and is OK just letting him hang around.

If she were someone I wanted to get serious with, I would have an issue with their relationship.

Very civil with my ex. We have 1 child. It makes life much easier. I look at friends who always fight with their ex over kids and I thank Heaven we get along. Plus, like mikelbr said, we have bday parties, sporting events etc... we all sat together at a Volleyball game this morning. It works.

Nope. One ex with a kid between us. I view her as a coworker I can't stand, but have to do my best to get along with her for the sake of the team (our daughter). I'm counting down the years to when I don't have to deal with her at all anymore. Only 10 more years to go!

I am friends with all my exes (except one) but am still close to my stepgirls and grans by them

While in a marriage I also made a point to create friendships with their ex-wives. It was based upon communication and respect our mutual love of the kids/grandkids.

Hewever, in my current relationship, my guy was married to a psycho goldigger. So there will be no friendship there nor will her children (my guys stepkids) ever be welcome in my house. Their loss

When a man and woman are friends at least one of them wants to fck the other one 99.999% of the time. One of the two always wants more than friendship.

Family member in the clergy who counsels a crap load of fighting couples gave me the correct advice early-on.

1. If you can include your current woman in everything you do and communicate with the ex, you'll probably be OK.

2. If not, stay the hell away from your ex.

My parents were childhood high school sweethearts who were 2 decades together.

Then the divorced, mom moved away and they both found great girlfriends and were in long term relationships with them (yes, mama was a lesbian, lol)

So when their HS reunion (Mandeville High) came along, mom and dad and their gfs decided to double date to the event.

Everyone love it and they all won one the prizes for best couples

Looks like I may soon be going on a cruise with my ex-fiance from when I was a teen . (We were together 5 years, no kids. amicable split due to distance).

So fast forward a few decades and he is married to this awesome chick that i absolutely love. She is such a fun person. Her husband is my ex. Her best friend is my sis.

She has been so good to my widowed sister (my BIL died last year). So I adore this chick.

And now it looks like we are going on a cruise ( a good one!) together.

Just me, my bf, my ex fiance, his current wife and my sis. Those 2 men are outnumbered and are gonna have the time of their lives with us 3 girls.

I'm still friends with girls I hooked up with in school. My wife is best friends with some of the girls I hooked up with in school because they're her sorority sisters. Two of them were bridesmaids in our wedding.

There would be very few (attractive) women for me to communicate with if I couldn't communicate with old flames.

I couldn't be real good friends with them. Kinda bragging, but my ex"s are all still hot. I was a very fortunate man in that dept.
And I can say without hesitation, I would be interested in friendship because deep down I'd want sex. Which, since I'm married and the happiest I've ever been, that probably wouldn't work. LOL
