Follow up question - how many of you suburbanite gun owners who talk on here about the Call of Duty vengeance you will wreak on anybody that infringes on your way of life chose not to serve in the military during the last 15 years of the war on terror?

I didn't realize military service was a prerequisite for exercising constitutional rights.

It's not. I'm all for gun ownership I just wish people would say f**k you it's America I like my guns instead of acting like they need them to defend themselves for when ISIS invades their gated subdivisions.

They aren't stealing each other's food stamps.

I think the overwhelmingly majority of gun owners want to keep them so they can defend themselves against a tyrannical government. That's just me.

Do they though or do they just want to feel like they have a cause?

I own guns because it's fun. I have no illusions of blockading myself inside my suburban home and shooting it out with ISIS / Obama stormtroopers / Zombies.

Most of the gun nuts I know are in way more danger of dying from obesity and high blood pressure than a government takeover.

Just curious with all the gun talk and people seeming to not know too much on the OT about guns, I was wondering who owned them?

Well officer if you must know. I had all my guns at my hunting camp this past winter, and the Ms river came up faster than we thought. The water blocked the road and I could not get to them and the river washed the camp and the safe that contained all my guns away. I ain't got them no mo.

Irony of ironies, after browsing through this thread I get the strong impression that non-gun owners feel more secure in their beings than do their gun owning counterparts. Human nature: endlessly confounding, endlessly fascinating.

I have several guns. Shotguns for bird hunting, rifles for deer or other large(r) game, and a couple of handguns for self protection. Not from the zombie apocalypse mind you, but from our fine citizens of New Orleans who might as well be zombies.

When I was 10 or 11 one of my next door neighbor's shot herself. She just graduated high school, her parents were in Florida and she had a friend over. She went get her dad's gun because some guys were threatening to go over there. She was just going to scare them, thought it was unloaded. Put it to her head and told her friend "watch I am going to kill myself" BOOM.

I was in the front yard with my dad when the friend came out screaming, I saw her laying over the recliner with blood gushing out of her head. When I was 13 or 14.. My next door neighbor, on the other side of our house was at a friend's house for the 4th of July, my neighbor was laying across the bed reading a magazine. The guy whose house he was at pulled out a shotgun, pointed at him. My neighbor and another guy who was there told him to stop messing around and he said "don't worry, its not loaded". A little while later, BOOM. It shot my neighbor, his head was resting on his arm so his arm took most of the impact. If it wasn't for his arm he would have died, but he stayed in the hospital for a long time. It really messed him up.

SInce then I have never been a fan of guns. I am not against people having them, personally I just don't like them.

So using a gun for defense can only be used if it's a terrorists attack?

Learning some actual gun safety would of helped in both of these cases. It is obvious your neighbors had never received any proper firearm safety training or respected firearms. That is something that can be done, and by the way the NRA has been doing this for years (Eddie Eagle Program).
