Looking to get an 04-08 4x4 model now that my truck is paid-off. I’d like to use it mostly as a commuter.

I’m an OT poor so I won’t be breaking the bank with this purchase. I know they’ll run forever but I’m skeptical about buying one with more than 125k miles.

I’ve heard they’ll go well into the 300k mile range with minimal issues. Could they even reach the mythical tree-fiddy level?

Depends upon the preventive maintenance that was done to it (or not) prior to your ownership, what you do it when it is in your possession and just flat out luck sometimes.

Hard to say. However, before you purchase any used vehicle, you should have it independently checked by a certified mechanic that you trust.

If in Baton Rouge, I highly recommend Tinh at Highland Car Care or Jason at K&M Automotive.

I have a 2008 SR5 with 220k miles and I haven't had any issues out of it. The only problem I had was a seized caliper which is common on 4runners. Other than that mostly regular maintenance. I hope to get another 100k-200k miles out of it.

125k, was that highway miles or city miles or miles spent climbing mountain trails?

Oil changes done on time or never done.

I have an 03 Limited with 260k miles. I had to replace the water pump and timing belt about a year ago but that’s about it. No serious issues or anything else like that, just a solid SUV.

4Runners are bullet proof. They will go as many miles as you can drive them, as long as you do the scheduled maintenance.

My brother had one for close to 275k before he sold it. Most of the maintenance was just simple stuff like lights and tires. Nothing major.

Depends. How many miles can you avoid crashing it?

4Runner should go about 391 miles based on 17 MPG and 23 gallon fuel tank. Hope this helps.

Check to see when the timing chain was replaced. Records on scheduled maintenance is a safe bet as well. I bought a used one with 70k on it and put 125k more on it myself. Still running to this day. Would buy another.
