Not killed on the first day, but I had a great-uncle who spent a grand total of one day in combat before getting a leg shredded by shrapnel at Iwo Jima. He said he was a lucky s.o.b. He spent the rest of the war at hospitals in Guam and Hawaii.

I think he means someone who is the bravest of the brave and highly skilled, yet their landing craft is blown up on their way to battle. They died through no fault of their own, just the dumb luck of it all.

Because having a war here in America where our friends and family would be collateral damage is much better than taking the fight somewhere else.

Yeah or if in the middle of a battle you step in a hole and sprain something or break a leg, then get shot after already being wounded or something
