Seriously Who invites people they don't like to their wedding? The amount of cliches in this thread is getting out of hand.

I was engaged to my SO for a year and a half, and it's crazy how much goes into planning a wedding. But I did absolutely nothing to help.

So I guess zero days.

Yea, great way to start a marriage there.

As usual, you totally miss the point. The wedding day isn't about how the marriage will go.

The point is that when two people love one another they put the othe person before themself. In the case of a wedding day, a groom should recognize the importance that day is for his new bride. It's her day to be a true "princess". It's a far more huge deal for them than it is for us. If you love her, you'll recognize this and make sure that her wedding day is everything she's always wanted it to be. Letting her have her wedding day is a way of expressing your love for her.

Our you can be a selfish, self centered prick like yourself and be an a-hole about it.

And going forward, the way you should structure your marriage is each of you puts the others wants and needs before your own. That's what loving someone is. And if you're not ready to do that, then you really don't love them. And if they're not ready to do that for you, then they likewise don't love you either. Love is never selfish. Sorry, it's just not.

This. It doesn't take too long to actually plan a wedding; the guest list takes the most time. It's more about getting the venues and vendors set up while they're still available and having your guest list finished in time to order all of the invitations and send them out in time, etc.

In my experience (ongoing), the decisions don't have to take time unless you're both indecisive. But every decision results in like 5 days of back and forth. Getting deposits out, getting contracts signed, etc. Sure, if you weren't working and could devote 2 solid weeks to making all decisions, traveling (if needed) to venues and meetings, etc. you could make a lot of progress quickly.

But still, you're waiting on other people. If you're scheduling multiple tasting or "design" consultations and things, all that stuff takes time. It's annoying. Fiancee picked out dress in 2 hours, still takes months to get here followed by fittings. I rolled into a menswear store knowing what I wanted, getting an MTM suit takes several hours.

It's a time and money black hole even when you are pretty decisive and drama-free.

No I don't. I disagree with you entirely that the day is only about the woman. Cool wall of text though.

Meh. The sure as hell are still a thing in Nola. Lot's of guys still get them.

And for you all that grew up in rural areas like me and don't understand what a wedding can entail on a large scale, it is a ton of stuff. It's not easy to plan and we don't show up at the local VFW Hall or cousin Franks house with a few kegs and the local dj to have a reception.

It also depends on the size of the wedding. There's a big difference between inviting 100 and inviting 500+. I know people who have planned weddings all over that spectrum. Imagine getting up-to-date addresses and full names (first, middle, last) for the men on the list (for couples) and the single women for a big wedding. I'd warn anyone who's getting married to take care of the guest list ASAP, because it's a lot more work than you think it will be. Thank God for Excel!!

Maybe one day you'll wake up and discover what it is to a thusly love someone other than yourself. I honestly hope you do. Going through life without ever learning to love someone (it's a conscious choice BTW, not an involuntary reflex) is a life wasted.

I went in planning to pick one out and they totally told me to frick off (nicely)

I'm fine with it, because it's one less expenditure. "Nobody is really doing them and all the clever ones have been done" is what I was told. Which is probably true, to be fair.

DO you not see the irony in accusing me of only thinking of myself while also claiming that the woman gets the entire wedding day for her only and that it should be planned completely without input from the husband?

You probably don't, because you're just to busy lobbing out insults to actually ready and understand.

What are prostitutes, Alex?

I'll take The Penis Mightier for $600.

But really - I didn't get a grooms cake for my wedding in NOLA. I don't like desserts and it seemed like a huge waste of money.

WTF? Was it the reception hall that told you that because they are too cheap to include it or what?

Mine was the 12th hole of LSU's golf course (par 3 over water by Fred's). Every wedding I've been to in the last 6 years has had a grooms cake.

Y'all are arguing apples and oranges. People are cringing at you saying it's about the girl being a princess and she's dreamed about it every day of her life because it's cliche AF and unrealistic, and you're cringing because you think they're saying the wedding day isn't more important to her and isn't all about her. What most people believe is that it's a day about both bride and groom, which has input by and is important to both, where everyone comes together to celebrate the couple and wish them well as they start their lives together. Sheesh

I never said not to give her input. If she wants your input, of course give it.

Better to be a man and come out and give a direct insult (did I mention that you're an idiot?) than to be a sissified little pussy and beat around the bush with passive aggressive bullshite like you always do on here.

Now move along little idiot. I'm done with you for now.
