How long does it typically take to redo a house that flooded?

Depends, are you doing it yourself or are you sitting around waiting on a contractor?

Well there are quite a few factors that play into that.

Depends if the bracing has to be replaced but having helped replace a floor I'd say weeks

Depends on size and extent of damage.

Its not me, its friends.

Say you clean everything up yourself, take everything out, rip up flooring and carpet, cut out drywall that was wet, then hire someone to lay down new floors and replace the walls

From what I recall as a kid, 3-6 months depending on height of the water in the house. I got rescued via pirogue May 8, 1995; and some time in the 80's.

Man, way to man variables. Size of house, how deep the water was, what kind of materials, how big is the repair crew, etc, etc.

It can be pretty quick if your wife is banging the contractor.

If you get off your arse and help, your friends could have this done in 1 day.

Depends on how hot your friends wife is and whether or not the contractor wants to "finish".

I would say that best case it would be weeks...of course, there are likely to be material shortages, etc. that will add to that timeframe.

To hang the drywall shouldn't take more than 1 day, to mud and sand the drywall can take up to 3 days. If they are going back with carpet, half a day tops.

One bit of good news is that china is sending a shitton of drywall. So at least people won't be running short on that.

all that is when a contractor and materials will be available, might be a wait for either or both

Your buddy should hang the Sheetrock himself. Isn't hard at all and will save a ton of money

My sisters house took 30 inches. We weren't able to get there until Sunday afternoon. Today we finished getting everything out. Took out the door sills and washed all the mud out. Replaced the condensing unit today. Got a friend driving from SC with materials. Hoping to have the rock hung and floated by the weekend, kitchen cabinets by middle next week. New appliances will be installed after the cabinets but we already have them ready to go in my garage.

She took water on Saturday the 13th, hoping to have her moved in an functioning by the 27th, maybe earlier barring any drying issues. Finishing work and wood floors will be done while she's in the house.

edit- Single story on slab, three bedroom, three bath with attached garage. Unsure about material cost but all labor is free except whomever we hire to do counter tops.
