How is Diet Coke still a thing now that we have Coke Zero?

Take one sip of Diet Coke (which doesn’t even taste good) and you can’t burp for an hour, and any burp is just a sludgy choke-back up of the drink. On the flip side, Coke Zero tastes more or less like Coke and has zero calories, which is the only reason to drink Diet Coke.
What gives? Do some people simply prefer the taste and un-burpability of Diet Coke?

I admit Coke Zero tastes more like coke. I just like the taste of Diet Coke to be honest.

I can’t stand either one. I don’t drink many soft drinks but when I do just give me the real thing.
People need to drink way more water though.

I don't drink many soft drinks anymore but I got used to Diet Coke in college because it's all my girlfriend would drink.
I got used to the taste and now prefer it. I probably drink 3 a week now though.
If my drink is going to have calories it's also going to have alcohol.

Lol at the typo in my OP. I think I’ll leave it for posterity and humor’s sake. I guess the market makes sense for those who still prefer it.
Now Diet Dr Pepper is a great diet version of the actual drink that is accurate in taste. But of course no one but women drinks it unless it’s your mixer for rum.

Diet Coke tastes like battery acid to me, but somehow a huge portion of the country is hooked on it, especially chicks. Diet Dr. Pepper, Diet Dew and Sprite Zero are the best as far as taste IMO.
