I’ve been wondering about this. Anybody here signed up for the military via being recruited? Do they sort of sell you in things that aren’t whole truths or are they very straight forward with you? I’m pretty unfamiliar with the entire process and would enjoy hearing about it from anyway that knows what it’s like to go through with it. TIA
I'm sure it depends on the recruiter. When I was in I heard some horror stories about promises recruiters made that young, dumb kids believed.

I am a vet and my son is currently serving.
Recruiters are sales people for their branch. They don't really lie, but they do shade the positives over the negatives. You need to do your research before meeting with them. You also need to stick to your guns, their goal is to get you into the slot they have the most need for, not get you the slot you want.
They for the most part are good guys. Many though are at a recruiting station because they are toward the end of their time in the military or are getting medical treatments near by. All in all they are a pretty representative cross section of the military.

I went to Navy Nuke school I made it half way through then got dropped. It was a good thing I only had to do 4 years instead of 6 years.
That program is very difficult to get through, I have heard.

Yes, she caught me while I was drunk leaving a hotel with two girls like OT 2 or 3 and one of their underwear's on my head.
Boy she was pissed and heck yes it was fun.
Yes, I dated up in maturity and looks with her.
I was young, in the army no responsibilities, and it was a good time to be there.
Most of the guys in my platoon were single and screw ups like me. We loved the ladies.
When I was in the regular Army when still had jeeps, still a Cold War going on, uniforms Drab Green ones until 81 or 82, you had NCO’s that served during Vietnam, had some former South Vietnam soldiers in my company, and if you were a lifer you would do a tour in Korea.
When I got out I joined the Guard until the early 2000’s. I seen that go from weekend beer parties to serious training after Desert Shield.

Depends on your work ethic and how much you party. Much like college.
After my 6 years as a nuke I went back to college and obtained degrees in geology and physics.
Nuke school was harder than the physics major, simply due to the amount of knowledge that was crammed into you in such a short time.

My friends that were Navy guys probably 80’s through early 2000 said Nuke school was no joke.

What’s the word on A-school for CTN (cyber security) in Pensacola?

I can ask my career Navy buddies.
I have some friends that got in when I did and retired a few years ago.
I give them heck and they give me heck.
Best joke I love to ask them.
Why do they not have stairs in the Navy?
Because fairy’s can fly.
They rib on me to.

I can understand her hurt and anger.
You missed the boat with her. If you made sons with her, they'd probably be playing in the NFL by now.
