How heavy are those flags the military carries in ceremonies? I'm watching Bush's ceremony

I was watching Bush's casket be transferred into the Capitol Rotunda yesterday, and the poor sailor carrying the Flag of the President looked like he was really struggling. His cover also flew off and into the DC wind as the casket was being taken out of the hearse so he had to march in front of the top brass of the Armed Forces without it.
The soldier carrying the American flag was owning it using only one hand.

It is a workout when the wind is kicking.

Not as heavy as the metaphorical one.

They have saddles they put them in when they're at present arms, it's not bad. The shitty part is wind, it's a bitch to keep them upright, especially when they're on the flightline or in a large open space. Same with a sousaphone if you see those guys.

You were a color guard?
Are you living in 1955 Jackson, Mississippi?

The American flag by itself isn’t heavy at all considering you get the stirrup thing to hold it. The Army flag with all the battle streamers can be pretty damn heavy. So I’m sure the other branch flags with streamers is the same. It’s a workout if the wind is blowing any.

Yeah it looked rough.
When they showed a clip of them leaving Houston, the wind looked even worse at Ellington. And that Color Guard had to wait a long time for the motorcade to arrive.
Hats off to yall who have done it. I'd be nervous as frick just being in the presence of all the important people.
