he was offered, but never wanted to. he honestly just loved sales. he loved going to talk to doctors and being out and about.
Ah, I see. I'd be terrible at pharma. Medical device is more appealing.

I personally would go for a Cat Rental option under a dealer and then you have mobility into the general line side should an opportunity pop up. Yes you're right, the rental side will grind you, but can be valuable experience..
Cat dealers are a goldmine.
Equipment rental it’s definitely where I would be looking if I was OP. Avoid insurance, roofing or anything like that

I’m an Agency owner, so I am 100% commission. My sales and service employees all have a base of at least 50k plus commission and benefits. My gross income this year will be 950k, and my expense ratio is about 40%.
If you want to get into sales, it needs to be something you can be passionate about. Something that generates renewal income vs one time sales is also a huge consideration. Freedom and time away from my office is more important to me than anything else. I’ve spent the last week in Austria and Germany and I’m still making money because my team is still selling and renewals are still flowing in.

Dude… find something you would enjoy.
I pissed that way, but hopefully only for a year and then I can get back into it. My other option is the fire department.

most tragic things i've ever witnessed was the absolute highest level of commitment and passion he put into learning the job, learning the doctors, and learning the products only to be eventually politely but firmly ushered into early retirement and replaced by an army of barely literate but drop dead gorgeous communications majors from A&M and Texas.
I worked at a small office 10 years ago and the owner bought a $15-$20k copier, printer. Two women sold it to him. One was roughly 40 and hot, the other was mid 20s and a complete smoke show. They said call them if he ever needed anything.
After they made the sale, the only person he ever got to deal with in person was a sweaty 350 lb nerd. It still makes me laugh.

my dad was a career pharmaceutical rep, and one of the most tragic things i've ever witnessed was the absolute highest level of commitment and passion he put into learning the job, learning the doctors, and learning the products only to be eventually politely but firmly ushered into early retirement and replaced by an army of barely literate but drop dead gorgeous communications majors from A&M and Texas. i have a lot of reasons that i hate "big pharma" but that is the top one.
I have a half dozen male friends that are in their 50's & 60's that are Pharmaceutical Reps that are good at their job and haven't been replaced with attractive females. Your hate might be misguided.

I would seriously do the fire dept… pay is bad but off a full week at a time?… find a side gig to help make up the difference.
