I can do pretty much any small job that there is to do around the house...though I choose to hire a lot of them out simply because I don't want to spend my weekend working on the shite. With the availability of youtube videos, anyone can do pretty much any job nowadays.

I don’t frick with vehicles or electrical, except easy things like putting in a fan in place of a light fixture. Can change oil but too easy to pay someone else. Can do basic shite like hanging up a porch swing, spackling drywall, etc.

Come on now, I can change wiper blades in my sleep. That's not even a job. When I buy I set, I take the 2 mins to change them in the part store parking lot.

I'll try anything except for electrical stuff (not including simple stuff like installing light fixtures). Youtube has taught me everything I know about plumbing to fixing small engines - which isn't much but enough that I haven't had to call anyone for help.

I used to keep 2 items in my tool box :

1. Ten pound maul
2. Credit card

I have since discovered that the maul was too much work and have replaced it with a cell phone.

If you're as handy as you say you are you would make a killing being a handy man uptown. My nextdoor app, which I tried deactivating but still get 10 emails a day, have so many post from people looking to have the simplest task done.

Growing up being used as slave labor in family business and home remodeling crews starting at 14, I can handle a lot of shite.

Just depends on if I have more money than time or time than money when something needs doing.

It’s almost impossible to find someone to do small jobs. I got lucky and my yard guy takes care of them for me

I have built built-in book cases, trimmed out doors and windows, crown molding, installed wood floors, re-wired my workshop, and built some furniture. Hired someone to replace the roof. I no longer work on my cars - just don't enjoy it.

On my car, I can do just about everything, but I don't do brakes. Everything else, no problem. Not because I don't know how, but because the implications of making a mistake could be really bad. I view electric work in the house the same way. I could do it, but still would rather pay a pro for the peace of mind.

Brakes are simple, what can you mess up? You remove the tire, take out two bolts, pull caliper off, remove old pads, use c clamp to push back the pistons, add squeak grease, and put back together. It's not rocket science.

Yep, and electric in the house is logical and not too hard either. Again, its about peace of mind.

Just because I say I know how to do it, doesn't mean I'm fast enough to do it for a living. It may take me an hour or two to do a job a pro can do in 20 mins, but I can do it.

I would love to learn woodworking craftsmanship better. I super appreciate great craftsmanship in a piece of homemade furniture. One thing I do know, they don't give away wood working tools.

Extremely handy but also recognize my limitations of time, equipment and knowledge. In this Information Age there’s really no excuse for not being able to do a lot of minor things yourself.

I can do it and then pay to have it done right or just pay to have it done right. My wife's expectations are unreal. No need in even trying.

No, they don’t. I look at pieces of furniture and think “man if I had_________ I could make ________” all the time.

Carpentry is my next hobby. I just finished getting my garage ready/clean for my building my workbench.
