Saw a vid (or a pic) of a guy who did the same thing, but used a giant bladder that was essentially a flexible tube filled with water to surround his house. It was 100% effective. Maybe you saw that story too.

Yes; Polypipe, polyflex, hydro / acqua barriers work well, if done right and paired with a trash pump and several sand bags. I worked with a crew of three to four other men for a few days to save a house this spring with that mix. The transfer pump is key though.

The Honda trash pump (wt30x) was the most expensive. About $1400. It is a must if you are fighting an active flood, i.e., the water is rising or it is raining heavy, because you MUST transfer the water out from the protected side. You might not need that big of a pump, and can save money, if it isn't heavy rain or a lot of water pushing under the pipe.
You can get the polypipe at an ag supply store for a couple or few hundred bucks, depending on the diameter you want.
