Thinking long term, publicly and unabashedly executing a paraplegic jihadi is the best recruiting tool ISIS could hope for. It’s not a deterrent to a group who relies on suicide bombers to die, even if we presuppose capital punishment is a deterrent at all for any crime.

Public executions are a tool used by dictatorships to foster fear among citizens subject to their rule. That’s why we don’t have them….not yet, anyway….
