Maybe it was all staged.
The female in question may be scared of OP and was too afraid for her own safety to drop OP. So she gets one of her male friends to act out all these things, and pushed OP away with a stealth form of reverse psychology.
Thus making him feel as if he was the one in control and making decisions.
