So, lots of research with no controls or standards. I'm not buying it.

I love when the frantic google search gotcha attempt is exposed.

I think your opinion may change once you have a kid

I couldn't imagine ever laying a hand on mine

My dad would make me go in my room, sit on my bed and "think about what I did". Now as a parent I know that this was more for him to cool off than it was for me to freak out. He'd come in the room and tell me what I did wrong and why it was wrong, and probably got one or two belt pops. They weren't much more than to make a pop sound, but in my head leading up to it I was scared out of my mind.

I know not to do it out of anger...and there are occasions when Time out is not the answer. Kids need to have a healthy fear/respect for their parents. It's what teaches them to make their own conscious to make the right decision.

There is never a good reason to hit a child IMO.

I didn't realize you fathered children. I really didn't. Congrats.

To be honest, I didn't read the beginning of the thread but did you offer any alternatives or how you deal with your kids? All I see is chastising of others.

Oh, the old ship 'em off so I don't have to deal with them on a daily basis routine. Then I can also make myself feel better by belittling others on their parenting skills.

Yep, I guess that is an alternative.

It is violence. For many parents, it may be a very mild form of it, but it's still violence.

You continued to argue this well into the afternoon. Why did you not just answer the worldview questions?

Dead on target from start to finish.

Somewhat similar to a coach making players run as discipline. It is a punishment that causes short term physical pain without injury that teaches that a certain behavior is not tolerated.

It's quite different. The coach doesn't hit the player. And a coach that did try to go around hitting his players in the name of authority wouldn't last very long because he'd get his arse dropped.
