It'd be the same. The Roman culture has always dealt with the same problems as American culture.

Just thinking about how the church silenced any kind of scientific thinking that didn't align with its teaching for a couple hundred years and how despite their antiquity how the roman and Greek cultures made tremendous strides in engineering math and science

The elites saw them as the myths they were, as a means of social control for the masses. So, not much difference.

You mean the same Church that developed our current university system?

Also for a time the leading scientists of the world were Catholic priests/ monks.
