I know of a couple “alimony for life” cases

Were they due a very lengthy marriage, old age, or disability?

In my state, spousal support tends to be somewhat limited and rehabilitative.

I've been a homemaker for over 25yrs... if I got served with divorce papers it'd certainly take me some time to get skilled and marketable for the workforce.

Probably comes from the man being ill informed or agreeing to "whatever it takes to get out of this"

Had a coworker lamenting to me about how he got fricked over. Then proceeded to tell me that he openly admitted in court to infidelity when the judge gave him multiple chances because there was no evidence. Represented himself.

Started at a time when women couldn’t hold jobs or could only get low paying jobs.

Alimony should be abolished now that women can easily work and make as much money as men. Child support should be split 50/50.

Bitch get a job and quit living off your ex should be the new mantra.

I don't know if I'd call that getting fricked over, exactly... he made two pertinent mistakes, nay, three... Committing adultery being but the first.

Prior to divorce there were a lot of mysteriously widowed women. Generally young, too

Permanent alimony, yes.

But there is still a need in some situations for rehabilitative alimony.

Say, a man advancing his career for 25yrs while a woman is homemaking by mutual agreement those same 25yrs.

in general that’s true, they can still try, and it’ll cost attorney fees to fight it

Had to sign out and pick one that wasn’t banned. I guess that took a minute.

I made significantly more than my ex wife. I was made custodial parent and she had to pay child support. Word of advice. Men don’t leave your kids, if she wants out make her be the one to move.

At one point in life, employers were responsible for their employees well being and their actions. Similar responsibilities for men and their families. Those type of traditions are what the law is rooted in and don’t change quickly. Now a days people are individualized in their personal and professional relationships…for better or worse.
