People value different things. Some people can't wait to leave where they grew up as soon as they are able to. Others value being close to friends and family.

You’re 100% correct. Always going to be someone wanting to explore and leave their home state. For some people it’s not jobs or family rather what they want to be close to. Some may love the mountains and head west and some may love the beach and hit the gulf coast, pacific coast or Atlantic coast.

This.
I love living here. Obviously part of the reason is because I make very good money, which allows me to send my kids to great schools and enjoy many other perks.
Living within a few hundred yards of family and having huge group of kick arse friends is awesome.
And you nimrods making the silly comments about getting fried food and other stupid La foods out of state don't get it. Nola is a world class food city and has a ton of great entertainment options. If all you have near your are shitty chains and you are fine with that, then you will never get it.
There is a shite ton to hate about this state, but sitting around being miserable about it and bitching does you no good.

Are these friends you grew up with or people you met past your college years? Reason I ask is because a lot of people growing up end up leaving the state for other opportunities elsewhere.

Any taxes I pay is more than made up in great public schools, roads, ease of traffic, beautiful parks, transportation, public parking, cleanliness, non fricked zoning laws, etc. At least I can see where my taxes are going.
If you make over 100K a year then LA can be a very good place to live in that you can buy your way out of the bad schools, neighborhoods, towns and so on.

It's a mixed bag for me. About half of my friends growing up are still here.
Same with siblings. My older sister never liked LA and left the day after she graduated LSU and never moved back. My younger sister will never leave. I'm somewhere in the middle. I don't mind living here but would rather live near the mountains and cooler weather.

I remember you talking about moving to Tennessee/Carolinas or somewhere out west. I love the eastern Tennessee/western NC area.

why is this still going on?

I do love that area of the country. I have a teenager that will be in HS soon so we aren't going anywhere any time soon.

just a few things
EVERYPLACE has Culture the customs, arts, social institutions, and achievements of a particular nation, people, or other social group.
this culture argument is the first one dropped at it is the absolutely dumbest fricking argument made.
Sure those that love the LA culture LOVE it, they grew up in it, its what they know best.
Culture also means
the arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively key phrase here
"intellectual achievement" that is the definition of Culture LA lacks, the intellectual achievement, thats why the educated class leaves.
Houston which is oft a target in these arguments has a Symphony,Ballet, Opera,Stage Theater.. these institutions is what the majority of the world consider the height of culture
LAs base-culture is the embracement of the lack of intellectual growth, you love what you're comfortable with, what has always been
that's why it never changes
the State embraces ignorance, not stupidity
ignorance
meanwhile, Houston is the most diverse City in the Country with great food from around the world, Major league sports, we're about to host an annual month-long celebration of 'merican cowboy Culture with the HLSR and soon after will have another art car show then the XFL championship game before the meat of an MLB season and another WS then the Texans make another run at mediocrity before enjoying another Christmas in shorts ,, and doing this all with jobs and good public schools

The food is amazing. Was just back home last week and I was envious that my mom can just go and buy a big bucket of jambalaya. It's my favorite.
But honestly, every state I've lived in since leaving is better than Louisiana and it's not close. If my family weren't there I'd never go back. Food isn't enough.

Bruh when we went to see LSU at Greenbay, the Wisky women were hideous. Even spent a day in Madison and it was the same thing so don't start that crap about fine women there. They are few and far between.

Where does she pick up her buckets of jambalaya?
