He has a motive for saying that. He doesn't want his store looted and burned to the ground.
Also a good point.
So what is the decision that is being made in the case if the officers weren't charged? I just watched the video and it's really hard to decide what to think about it. Cops have to make decisions in a split-second that may or may not be the correct way to go (or maybe there is no correct call in a given scenario). Is the story that they thought he was reaching for his gun?

I guess my thing would be, was he a threat while being held to the ground? Plus, the store owner saying it wasn't him that was causing trouble and giving a reason for him packing heat makes it sound even worse.
The cops got a call that someone was threatening people with a gun in front of the store and fit his description. They told him to comply, tased him twice, wrestled him to the ground and he was still reaching for his pocket. If you watch the video, it looks like the cops may not have fired first. Rumor is that he got his hand on the gun in his pocket first and popped off a round causing the cops to fire back.

Apparently AS and the owner had an agreement that he'd let him sell weed, CDs, etc out front for a cut of the sales. If that's true, then it makes sense as to why he would say that.

A couple of hours at the firing range.

Justice denied for Alton. Another case of southern cops not being held accountable. The chickens are coming home to roost.

The word that's been leaked out is that the autopsy showed that the dumbass shot himself in the leg while going for his own gun.
Also, the fact that the Lynch DoJ sealed the toxicology report seems pretty telling.

Replaced all my lead poured reloads with hollow points.
Dusted off the bullet proof vest.
Updated my bug out kit.
The norm.

Sterling had been arrested for selling drugs in that exact location a month earlier and was known criminal to police.
The police were called because he pointed a gun at someone twenty minutes prior to police arriving
Upon arriving, the police instructed to put his hands on his head and turn around. He did not comply instead moving towards the officers.
Police then tazed him to no effect. He continued to approach them.
The police then wrestled him to the ground and attempted to pin his arms. Sterling's right arm came free and reached for his waist/pocket. That is when the first police officer fired his weapon.
Police followed proper protocol and Sterling, reasonably believed to be armed, acted in manner that was a direct threat to the lives of the officers.

Next theory - cops shot him in the leg with a planted gun to cover themselves.

Okay, that makes some sense. Damn, it's gonna get ugly in Red Stick then.

Oh, wow. Well, that would certainly explain a lot. I thought it was interesting that the stories said he was carrying a gun because other CD vendors were being robbed. How many people actually buy (or sell) CDs on the street?

Sounds pretty plausible.

Filling up my cars and strategically parking them so we can get to them if we have to fallback from the compound.

Taking pictures of all my valuables and the serial numbers since I'll be out of town and live downtown.

The compound gets overrun by the Visigoths on Tuesday. Sayanora, Bullfrog.

"Selling CDs" is likely a front for selling drugs. He's also a convicted felon, so carrying a gun would've probably sent him to the pen.

Anyone know an electronic or furniture business that is morally casual towards insurance fraud?
