If everyone embraced the idea of a well funded UBI (using a VAT) it would be awesome for the country.
Adding some 30,000,000 legal citizens almost immediately, and encouraging another 2-3,000,000 more annually, will destroy any fiscal viability of UBI no matter how high you set the VAT.

Not reading whole thread, but that’s why Qaddafi was done in. He was trying to frick with our monopoly on buying oil.
Saddam too. He wanted to trade in his currency.
He ain't here no more either.
The Petro dollar rabbit hole really made me look at things geopolitically differently.

I have a little bit of this, but I'd rather metals. If shite really hits the fan, I won't be able to easily buy/sell on bitcoin.
Gold either. SHTF none of that really matter unless you’re ridiculously wealthy. Guns, ammo, food, other related supplies. SHTF you’re not meeting an ammo dealer with gold bars to trade. SHTF you’re not getting extra food with gold. Bartering real goods/services with actual utility will matter more than precious metals.

I’ve been preparing for years by going to Walmart on Black Friday. If you can wrestle Karen for a Crock Pot, you can handle just about anything.

I guess it’s possible, but when this plays out it will catch you completely by surprise, because you don’t understand the mechanisms at work (I don’t either).

It sure seems like these "Covid relief packages" mostly go to foreign governments or to various special interest instead of the people.
It’s an impeachable Offense to investigate that

Spend all your money now before it is worthless

Every dumbass who predicts a crash was wrong over 80% of the time. They predict a crash every cpl yrs, (have predicted one crash correctly) but most not. Buy stocks. The olonger you hold a dollar? the less value it has. A stock increases in value if chosen correctly. Yea it may crash, then you buy more. Itll go back up. The dollar? I doubt it ever goes back up. Keep printing Monopoly money. Theyve been doing it for decades

Yep. Tell people this all the time.

Can’t for the life of me figure out why people think we’ll all walk around with physical gold and silver as mediums of exchange again. Even if you believe there’s a return to the gold standard, there won’t be, it’s still paper currency representing physical gold stores which you do not possess. Countries and dictators will swap gold to settle trade, not individuals.
If SHTF and the overwhelming majority of the population is rendered essentially destitute rice would have more value to a peer than gold.

Easily stored and long-lasting foodstuffs, medical supplies (including currently hard-to-get rX shite), liquor, nicotine, and tools that allow for productivity would be a premium.
I think hard copy books, or hell, even printed copies of pirated PDFs, that describe complex engineering, chemical, or manufacturing details will be worth quite a lot.

To the right peeps, I agree. These are the peeps I’d want to surround myself with if SHTF for real. Problem will be that there aren’t many of them and there are too many stupid mfers who can’t assemble a bookshelf from IKEA.

That's why someone who isn't me would suggest at least having a half dozen individuals who could use and appreciate such information in case the poo hits the oscillating blade.

Everyone keeps talking about unfavorable demographics. Please list 1st world countries in a better demographic position than the USA, and also 2nd world countries which do not have this problem, I’ll start :
1st world:
2nd world:
India, Mexico, Brasil
1st world:
2nd world:

When we talk about demographic problems, what do you mean? TFR? Homogeneity? Political leanings?

I get what your saying, and you're right..I don't know the entire mechanism nor do I know the tipping point. However, I know we are closer than we have been. You can't continue pumping money into the system and not expect a crash at some point.
MMT theorists believe we can escape the negative effects, but I don't believe that's possible.

I know entirely too many ostensibly smart, well-to-do folks who are all in on MMT. I think they are incredibly wrong, and their influence is going to absolutely frick us. I would love nothing more than to be wrong and for me to look like a fool.
