I was a military brat, starting over was routine. Pay me 30% more, and I've done shite like moved from Baton Rouge to Greenville, SC in a weekend, started work on Monday.
You can love family, but it's your job to protect your immediate family, not get trapped in a shithole so you can have a BBQ with your second cousin every quarter.

My story looks nothing like that. I wasn’t connected to Nashville at all.

I still had to take a huge risk leaving family and friends whom I had known my whole life

Is nuance that hard?

Your story contradicts itself. If I hadn't read the last part I would think you were a nashville transplant that had been there for 3-4 years and wanted out.
You can't say you have no connection and then say it's a risk because you're leaving your friends and family
The whole done with it on an emotional and psychological level reads more like you're running from something or someone, not a place on the map. Would guess a woman is involved

Corporate escort twice.
On our own accord once.
Experiencing different locales is great. Highly recommend.

Tennessee doesn't have state income tax either

Changing states is pretty easy, it's more of a hassle than anything. I have moved to more countries than most people have states. I am living in my 5th different country now. Hoping Germany is my final stop. Love it here.

This is such an abstract concept that I only hear from Louisiana people. I’m from Louisiana and I still don’t know what it even means

This sounds like a reddit post from someone that has anxiety.
Not sure about the reddit part since I never go there.. but you say ‘anxiety’ like it isnt incredibly common .. Matter of fact, look around in 2026- i would say that anyone who isn’t hugely anxious just isnt paying attention, or has their head buried in the sand , or just has a brain that’s not wired right .

Are you an AI chatbot? That post reads as if were meant to be a response to some ongoing conversation, or a rejoinder to some challenge to the legitimacy of your move to Texas, not an original post.

If I hadn't gotten married I would've gone full Dick Whitman and moved, changed my name, etc. Gone completely MIA. By now they would've hunted me down. Instead my wife has me stuck in Louisiana working offshore, when I could easily move somewhere else, make the same money or more, and be home every night.

It's a way to cope.Over highlighting the perks, perceived or otherwise, to diminish the negatives that are far greater in number

No it does not. It’s not uncommon to live in a shite hole but still have family there holding you back.

I just skimmed this post and say this as someone who has lived in several states, but I do think the way people here talk about moving away from home/family is pretty weird

Very easy. Just find job opportunities at like companies in your industry located elsewhere, apply, interview, move. Be marketable makes it easier (engineer by trade here)
It’s not that hard. Have done it multiple times esp early in my career.

So...a connection to the place. You just worded it weird. I'm not going to argue with you about how you personally feel, I'm just telling you that your wording was contradictory.
I've lived in 3 states in my 20's and 30's, moving for career advancement each time.
You're talking about leaving your hometown at 25 years old, honestly it happens a lot sooner for most of the people that do it. If I was working remote and could just move anywhere in the country I wanted I would probably prioritize it around my hobbies. I'm sure you had a good reason to choose wherever in Texas you chose. I hope you chose wisely, but if you don't have a family of your own it's not that huge of a deal.

I ain't reading all that. You do what you need to do for your family.
My wife and I lived in Georgia when I was in grad school and first the first few years of our professional career. We made the most out of it, made a lot of great friends and memories.

I lived in a state with no state income tax, so my employer paid me like that. If I moved somewhere with state income tax without telling them, that is literally tax fraud because they would be reporting the wrong withholding for me. So instead of dealing with that mess, I moved to Texas and avoided the whole issue. The whole game was my employer not knowing that I moved in the first place.
