Does patient's insurance pick up the tab? Medicare for some? 20% co-pay for 14-15 days in the hospital can't be cheap. Or is Uncle Sam covering this too. Just curious. You don't hear much about this.

Would be pretty weird if it wasn’t treated like a normal admission.

Insurance doesn't cover biological warfare. Patient pays 100%.

Aren't the feds covering the tab?
Not that I agree with it.

Yes - insurance covers an appropriate hospital stay for Covid19. Also, most insurance plans have agreed to waive cost-sharing for patients (copays and deductibles). The federal government has also promised to reimburse hospital for cost of treating uninsured Covid19 patients.

Depends. Medicaid patients never pay anything. Some insurance companies are waiving copays for covid, some aren't.

I imagine most will hit their max out of pocket while staying in the hospital for two weeks. Like my out of pocket max is 4000 so after that I pay nothing.

I'm pretty sure that the Feds got many insurances to agree to cover testing/treatment. I logged into our BCBS to check some claims (not for covid claims) and there was a Coronavirus statement stating just that.

I guess I should expect my premium to go up up up.

Most insurance companies are covering all of the costs, or at least that what I think i got from BCBS early on in this deal.

They had to do something to incentivize people to go be seen. Many people wouldn’t because it would be cost prohibitive.

The federal stimulus package included $100 Billion that will go to hospitals to offset their loss of revenue from stoppage of elective surgeries, etc. However, these funds will also be used to cover the costs for caring for uninsured Covid19 patients.

Not necessarily.

Think about all the elective surgeries, doctors visits, and injuries that aren't happening.

I should have added, we met our ded by February 14 and we're 800$ away from a 5 digit oop max. I'm broke and expecting my premium to go up next year if they keep "having" to pay for us. Husband and son both had to have surgery == 3 weeks apart. Know how fun that was???

My insurance picked up the tab when I was stuck in the hospital with the China virus and I haven't received a bill for it YET.

My insurance will pay my whole tab if I actually have to be hospitalized with covid

Which means they know something not public I’m sure
