probably around 13 or 14 when I grew to be about 5 inches taller than him

before he would just always muscle me up in the post, but then I grew taller and was able to jump and I could block half his shots

I don't remember, but he was pretty darn good even in his later years. He probably could have played college ball, but the war took that dream from him.
He stayed in good shape his whole life.

My old man was terrible. Baseball was his game. He still shot granny style
But that right of passage of beating someone you weren't supposed to beat was neighborhood guys who were older than me. Knocking my shot into the nExt yard and muscling me down in the post.
But I grew up in the Maravich days and basketball was the game. I had a hoop in the driveway and played all the time.
I'm not sure how I did not get discouraged as much as I got my arse beat.
But I do remember when I blocked a shot of one of the older guys into the next yard. I was in 8th grade. Perfect combination of overconfidence and perfect timing. Tremendous feeling, amazing feeling.
They were juniors-seniors in high school. The guy I blocked was not happy

That was much more interesting....

My dad always had the shots.

I had the ability to drive to the basket...

He would win.

I'm sorry but your father lets you win. You never beat him.

Still haven't beaten my dad in basketball. He's 51 years old and in incredible shape and is a great athlete. I keep it close though. I was never that interested in basketball so I was never that good at it. I got his height but not his weight so he kinda pushes me around lol.

The first time I thought I bet him was when I was 11/12. I beat him 20-18 and he looked at me and said that I was now old enough for him to go 100%.

I did not beat him again until I was 15, bigger than him and could out jump him. I blocked his hook shot and he quit playing me.

My son has no returned the favor at 15. Lol. I can back him down but he is still taller that me plus he is in young high school basketball shape and I am in 40+ sort of workout shape.
