There are several reasons why owning some gas lanterns at home is a good idea. First, they are very cheap.

Second, they are so good they are worth bumping a several year old thread

I expected strange things today but could not foresee a 4 year old gas lantern thread bump for no apparent reason.

Well done.

If this is a new installation; do you have a particular brand or style you recommend over others?

If you're near the New Orleans area, go with Flambeaux and don't look back.

I have 2. They're a requirement in my subdivision. No idea how much it adds to my bill each month, but I'm guessing it's negligible.

Better read your HOA restrictions. Mine is a $50 fine for having them off after one warning.

If they are blowing out, the flame is too high. Flame height is important. Also quality lights have wind guards.

About 5 years ago the previous house we lived in had 2 at the front door. I turned them off for two months in the summer time and the monthly reduction was just under $10 per month. Turned them back on and the increase was about…$10 per month.
They make a beautiful display but they are not cost effective.

I have one hanging under my porch. Was there already when I moved in, so no idea on brand. Not sure the exact monthly cost to run it, but my gas bill is only around $25 or so a month during the summer when the only 2 things in my house consuming gas are that lantern and a 55 gallon water heater.
