What shitty company insures you?
They are all like this. Too many people believe insurance will fix everything, when in fact they will screw your over almost every time and in several ways. Do not count on insurance for anything but to take your money.
I recommend lowest premiums and highest deductibles and only make claims when absolutely necessary.

Do the prices for removal, materials, and replacement equal the total of the same from the contractor?

More than likely the insurance company used Xactimate which takes into account, labor, material and equipment prices updated monthly for the entire county. Why don't you take a picture of the line items in the estimate and let's see what line items the insurance included in your estimate.

good to know. we haven't chosen a contractor yet, but the company that came out today seemed to think the cost for ripout and install was low.
Why would you show him the prices first? Goodness.
It’s one thing to show him, but get some rough estimates over the phone first. He should be able to tell you basic flooring installation prices for example. You should ask someone that over the phone to make sure they are in your ballpark before spending your time getting a quote.
And as said, there’s plenty of scenarios where contractors love insurance work. So be careful there.

I'm dealing with the same thing. What did you end up doing?
