Home insurance claim question

Just had the adjuster out fot a lightning strike that did a bunch of damage. The guy was making it sound like I had to turn over damaged items to them. Like the TV that is damaged for example, he said I'd have to turn it over to the insurance company after they cut a check.
Don't care, the TV is broken but it just sounded odd to me.

Some insurance companies collect salvage either on their own or through a third party.
Most of the ones I work with only collect jewelry or high value stuff
Make sure that replacement cost quote is accurate from your other thread. Ive seem some shitty quotes done

I filed a lightning claim a few years ago. They didn't ask for anything like that. I had to have an electrician out to document what was broken, then Farm Bureau sent me a check. I actually still have one of the TVs that was still half-arse working.

sent pictures via an app and had money minus deductible deposited within days...
Is this your first claim ?

This is my first claim.
The only thing that seemed odd is the basement couch, has power reclining seats. Those were fried, so it has been added to the claim. He said let him know when the new one gets here, he wants the old one for his hunting club. I think that's why he pressed to say they "just bought all the broken stuff, so they want it."

Not out of the ordinary especially if the TV still sort of works.

If it can't be repaired and has to be replaced, once the insurance company pays you for the item on the claim then they technically do have the right to the item for salvage.
But I find it extremely odd that the insurance company would have any interest in the salvaging of normal household items that are damaged beyond repair because there's not really any value they could get back on the salvage. Insurance company taking totaled vehicles for salvage is normal because they get a reasonable amount of money back by selling it to junkyards for parts or scrap metal.

Wait to they deduct for the age of everything. They will.

Either they keep them or divvy them out in the office. if nobody takes it, salvage goes in the trash.
Otherwise its a third party who pays by the pound usually

And you’ll get it back if it is incurred in the replacement of your damaged items.

Depends if your policy has replacement cost coverage for the contents. If it does, then they deduct depreciation but list it as "recoverable depreciation" on claim report because you can get that money back once you submit receipts showing you replaced the item. If you decide not to replace it or replace it with something cheaper, you don't get the recoverable depreciation back.
If you didn't have replacement cost coverage, then yeah you'll be doing this:

If this is how it plays out, I'll request just the 2 recliners be replaced not the entire couch. I'm not helping him play his system for a man cave couch. It's my man cave couch damnit.

You cold have just the motors replaced if you want or get brand new couch with everything new. Why not just replace, unless they really match everything else. Does it really matter what they do with the salvage items you were paid replacement cost on?

Ask the insurance company to sell it back to you. They do that with cars all the time. Don't see why they wouldn't do the same with a couch if you asked.

Honestly, because I hate the shite out of the couch with the electric. So I'd probably take my time, watch deals etc and get something entirely different.

No need to watch for deals. Just find a comparable couch and send him the bill, they will pay so long as it isnt extreme.
FTR, my company actually replaces stuff for insureds or prices them for the adjusters. Its amazing how many people turn down brand new stuff that is much better than what they had for a ACV check to shop for deals.

Yeah I get it, it's just with the a hole in my roof, electrical damage, and all the electronics that were fried the couch not reclining is WAY down on my list. I did however think it should be part of the claim.
