I'm in the market for a home alarm system. My house currently does not have one. Do you have any recommendations?

I agree with the above, but that system will have to be replaced after each police visit.

Alarm Center on Airline and Siegen. They do standard monitoring service but their home security cameras are really nice.

ETA: apparently Alarm Center sucks and Simplisafe is the way to go per the other thread

Have you looked into Simplisafe?

The monthly monitoring is very cheap and no landline that can get cut.

Downside is batteries in sensors.

I live in BR, and have used Certified Alarms for years. I've have always been happy with their service. I believe they are based out of Denham Springs...

I have been with Signature Alarms for several years and happy with them. Their monitoring system won't try to sell you anything when you call them like some of the bigger places. Their monitor station does just that and if you need something else, they provide you with the number for retail. Any time I have activated my alarm, they have been very quick to call.

Certified or Custom are two popular ones. I use certified just because they were the first one I called.

I switched to Vivint and I like it. $50 a month and a five year contract though. There are definitely cheaper alternatives but I can't speak to their service.

I use capital security (local company obviously) and couldn't be happier. I just went with them because that is who the previous owner had. Nice Cajun guy and his son back somewhere in the industriplex. Monitoring plus the cell box plus the app to arm/disarm is like $33/mth but I think you get a discount by paying a year at a time. They allowed me to do a one year contract (most required a 3 or 5 year contract if I recall). Certified was a close second for me.

Probably so but figuring service at about $25 a month it comes out to $1500 in equipment. Considering there are 29 devices installed that comes out to $52 each plus the master panel. I can accept that.
