On the holidays I think of people that are no longer here.

Reading GK Chesterton helps me. His combination of humor and intellect make for a good pick me up.

quote:

The true soldier fights not because he hates what is in front of him, but because he loves what is behind him. GK

Marriage is a duel to the death which no man of honour should decline. GK

Global warming is literally killing us while we sleep and our president doesn't even care.

Thanksgiving 2008 was the last time I saw my brother alive. He looked like shite. I never saw him again. His funeral was three weeks later.

My mom didn't take it too well, drank herself into full blown hard core dementia. She doesn't know who I am. She screams at walls. She is basically an animated corpse, there is nothing there. And my toddler gets to see his "grandma" because my dad won't put her in a home. Like he's virtue signaling.

I have already made commitments for this season but I think I'm checking out after this year.

Eta checking out of family get-togethers, not life!

Holiday Sadness

Mine goes all the way to a 4-5 day depression. Happens every year and I never really know when it will happen or what triggers it but it happens every year. Mine probably centers on the fact that I lost a older brother before I was born and my twin brother 5 days after we were born and my Mom when I was 6. Always wonder how my life would be different and how I would be a different person if one or all of them hadn't passed.

Hang in there, buddy. You aren't alone. We all get in the funk. I, for one, am already tired of the holidays and they just started. January will be here before you know it.
