Holding the door open shouldn't require a verbal thank you every time. A smile and nod is just fine, its not a very difficult thing to do.

If she’s hot enough I’ll offer to purchase her for $200 and put her through etiquette re-education training.

I hold the door open with my hand held real high, while blocking their walking path as to create a low bridge underneath my armpit so they can smell my delictable scent.

I would consider a smile and nod from her a thank you. I’m talking nothing verbal or gestured.

Are you doing it simply to be polite and because it's the right thing to do or to earn recognition for yourself by way of a "thank you" from her?

That being said, her not saying "thank you" or at least a nod of the head shows a great lack of upbringing and class on her part.

I walk through and hold for the person behind you probably doesn't require acknowledgement, a stop, open and hold while allowing the person to go in first warrants some sort of communication verbal or non-verbal.

Type + Distance

Some things just aren't worth getting upset about...this would be one of them.

Honestly, just depends on my mood. Even when I’m in a bad mood, I’ll hold the door for a stranger. But unlike when I’m in a good mood, when said stranger doesn’t say “thank you” I may say something to the effect of “yeah no problem you’re welcome” like a sarcastic a-hole.

I always say thank you. And I hold the door open for people all the time. I just hate when they are that awkward distance where you feel like you are holding it too long but know it would pretty much slam in their face. I usually joke about it to the person.

My stance on this: I don't do nice stuff for people expecting them to say thank you. I just assume they won't.

Like if I hold a door open for someone. Or if I let someone merge in front of me while driving. You just do it because it's a nice thing to do. Doesn't matter how they respond.

It's a small thing that makes life more enjoyable.

I held the door open for this big black gal the day Obama was inaugurated. She looked at me and said “get used to it”.

At that moment I knew we were truly in for some dark days ahead.

If wearing a skirt, will usually just trip her. Get some satisfaction anyway.

Not really. All I had to do was type a few words into your shite thread to get a response from you.

It wasn’t that much of an effort.

Yep, same here. I always look them in the eye, most of the times I get a thank you.
