it was four diamonds, one in each corner of the park

the one closest to the gym was the t-ball diamond. i never played a real game on that

the one in left field of that one was the main field, the 9-10-11-12 field. that's where i played most of my games

the one in left field of that one was the second diamond. i also played on that one

and then you have the older kids diamond. i was in st. bernard by then

My son put in lots of time & was dedicate as hell. Was played in HS often but wasn't by far considered a star, but what I'm most proud of is the man that baseball helped him to be. He loses with grace & realizes that despite of giving your all sometimes it's just not enough.

We always told our son when it stopped being fun, he was welcome to quit....Sadly he decided not to play ball his senior year. We were heartbroken because it was his last year to play, but ultimately it's is his decision & always had been.

Sounds like your boy has had a great baseball experience and in the end that's what it's all about. Even if he never steps foot on a field again as a player he'll still carry the lessons he learned and the great times an friends he made playing the game. And who knows, maybe a few years down the road he'll get to know the other side of the game as a little league coach himself. I hope he does anyway. I know for me it's been an experience I'd not trade for anything. As much as I loved playing baseball as a kid, coaching it to kids is even more fun and rewarding.

i'm talking about the 9-10-11-12 field. it was too big

then i used to hear my friends at airline park brag that they were hitting it out of miley

another thing... the fields all look weird when the fences are too high. I can see it in the major leagues bc everyone likes the Green Monster, or when you have space constraints, but the fields with a higher center field fence look stupid. Chalmette High's fence is too high. I hate that. Why does everybody hate HRs?

Parish league. Son intrested in baseball only made 6 a few months ago.

I can't ever seem to find the signup for the bigger leagues on time.

At least I don't have to drive into BR for practice any more.

Actually, participation trophies and not keeping score is what's really wrong with America.

I'm still waiting for my company to start handing out "participation raises." Not in a union, so I'm thinking it may be a while.

they aren't participation trophies, but rings for little tournaments and all of the "state championships" and "world series" are bull shite.

Where I'm at the only league that does not keep score is the 3&4 tball. The new trend is that 5&6 kids are in coach pitch now. I'm not in favor of putting all them into it though as many are not ready and would benefit from a year of tball.

Yep. My son has shelves of trophies from his years of baseball, football and other sports. The only trophies he gives a shite about though are his all star and championship trophies because even at his age (12) he realizes the difference between a "I showed up" trophy and one he's actually done something to earn. I can see giving participation trophies to the little ones (like 9 or 10 and under) but after that, just stop with the the participation trophies.

and it if it was done right... they will know how to compete, be a team mate, be accountable to others, work hard, win and lose....

in other words they learn how to compete in life playing games.....

But do they know how to compete for a starting postion, or a role on a team? When all of these teams are comprised of only 10 players, nobody ever sits the bench. Nobody has to learn how to support your teammates. Many parents just quit one team and find another if their kid isn't playing the postion they want. It's surprising how many high school sophomores are ready to transfer schools because they aren't starting on the varsity team. Why? Because they've never had to compete for a spot on the field in their life. They don't know how to stay involved in the game from the dugout. So they revert back to old lessons learned and just look to leave to find the next team.
