Wasn't it called the Amber Room?

The Amber Room in the Catherine Palace of Tsarskoye Selo near Saint Petersburg is a complete chamber decoration of amber panels backed with gold leaf and mirrors. Created in the 18th century, it disappeared during World War II
quote:
The Amber Room was looted during World War II by Nazi Germany and brought to Königsberg. Knowledge of its whereabouts was lost in the chaos at the end of the war.
The Amber Room is pretty interesting as a history topic. Especially if you believe the theory that it was hidden by the Nazis and is just lying around waiting to be re-discovered.

So what is that a picture of?

That was the original Amber Room. It was recreated in the 70's, which is what is pictured above.

Is it gilded or something?

It was said to be made of solid gold, with the czars crown jewels in it.
If I remember correctly, it was raided by the Nazi's and the treasures have been lost since. I believe a couple years ago, a treasure hunter believed he had found the treasures in Germany.

Jackson had a Palaces of St Petersburg exhibit in 96. They created exact replicas of the rooms. Was really stunning even if not in real gold

I believe that it was destroyed or looted by Soviet troops in the Battle for Konigsberg. From what I read, the Amber Room was already in pretty bad shape, which is why the Russians weren't able to get it out of St. Petersburg. I just can't see how it was packed up and hidden away during the chaos that was happening at the time.

I got NJPed in Norfolk for getting in a bar fight with a Navy Warrant Officer once.

I know that Germany used merchant ships in the war effort. That one appears to have a swastika on the side.
I guess this is a WWI German Merchant Raider?
