We at the RBPP of Jackson Mississippi are very saddened to know that white DEMONS have stooped to such a disrespectful low-level once again... let it be known these are only misdemeanor charges and we fully support our black brother and hope that he will get over this obstacle stumbling block the enemy has put before him.

I'm gonna petition Chicken for a name change.

Mississippi has cemented itself at the bottom of everything except hunting and that's only because no hunters actually live there.

sabi, what exactly does this mean?

I mean, did he take bribes or just talk with them and tell them they had best plead out or whatever?
Hell, all DA's do the latter.

It is illegal for police officers and prosecutors to give legal advice to defendants. I have never heard of anyone being arrested for it.

He represents the interests of the people of Hinds County. For him to advise and represent the interests of criminal defendants is a conflict of interest, breach of the public trust, blah blah blah.
Now what amounts to it in practice? Who fricking knows

It seems like it could be a very fine line at times.

People ask us all the time and our response is always,
"We cannot give you legal advice."
I don't know what other departments do, but this is how we handle it.

An affidavit filed Wednesday said Smith unlawfully advised and provided counsel to Christopher Butler, who had been charged with embezzlement, wire fraud and possession of a controlled substance, and Darnell Turner, who had received charges of aggravated assault and domestic violence. Smith represented Turner before he was elected district attorney, court records show

According to the affidavit, Smith gave Butler’s attorney, Sanford Knott, a letter that outlined ways to attack the state’s case against Butler; met with Butler twice at the Hinds County jail without his attorney present; met with Butler’s family and referred to him as his client; and used the grand jury to pressure a circuit judge to dismiss drug possession charges against Butler
