Sounds like he was giving low level criminals the hook up.

I would probably do the same if I were a prosecutor.

No. Declining a prosecution due to lack of evidence, working a plea deal or helping with sentencing for a deserving defendant is entirely different than advising a guilty client on how to beat the states case. Hell, the allegation that he met with a defendant without counsel present by itself could get him disbarred.
